RYAN- End of Year Print Brief

Windows Protected Print: What Businesses Should Know for 2025-2026

Image

Microsoft is introducing a major change to how printing works in Windows. It’s called Windows Protected Print (WPP)part of a larger effort to make printing more secure, more reliable, and easier to manage.

🔒 Why Microsoft Is Making the Change

In recent years, Microsoft discovered that many Windows security issues were tied to old printer drivers. To fix this, they’re moving toward a driver-free model that connects printers directly and safely, reducing complexity for IT teams and organizations.

🖨 What’s Changing

  • WPP replaces traditional printer drivers with built-in, secure printing tools.
  • Advanced features like stapling or duplex printing will come from new, manufacturer-specific Print Support Apps (PSAs) instead of old driver packages.
  • Major brands such as Canon and Kyocera already have PSAs ready, making this transition easier for most RYAN customers.

If you are considering upgrading your print technology, the Canon and Kyocera experts at RYAN can help.

🕒 When It’s Happening

WPP is currently an option, and not a "requirement".  However, at some point Microsoft will mandate this.

💡 What You Can Do Now

For most offices and enterprises, no immediate changes are required.
RYAN recommends that you:

  1. Stay informed — know what “Windows Protected Print” and “Print Support App (PSA)” mean.
  2. Identify your printer brand — if you’re using Canon or Kyocera, PSAs are already in place.
  3. Plan ahead — upgrading older print technology isn’t required today, but doing so may improve performance, compatibility, and security as WPP becomes standard.
  4. Ask for guidance — when the time comes to transition, RYAN will help ensure it’s seamless.

SECTION 179 TAX DEDUCTION – YEAR-END CUSTOMER
GUIDE

Image

What Is Section 179?
Section 179 of the U.S. Tax Code allows businesses to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment and software placed into service during the tax year. Instead of depreciating the value over time, you can write off up to 100 % of the cost in the year you buy and install it.

In practical terms: if you acquire new or upgraded office technology and put it into service before December 31, 2025, you may be able to deduct the entire cost this year.

What Qualifies?
• New or used equipment purchased and placed into service by 12/31/2025
• Eligible lease type: only $1 Buyout (“Capital”) leases qualify for Section 179
• Not eligible: FMV (Fair Market Value) leases or rental agreements
• Applies to all brands RYAN sells and supports (Canon, Kyocera, and others)
• Includes printers, copiers, scanners, workflow solutions, and related software

When Does It Apply?
To claim the deduction for tax year 2025:
■ Equipment must be delivered, installed, and operational no later than December 31, 2025
■ The invoice alone is not enough — it must be placed in service by that date

Why Act Before Year-End
• Immediate tax deduction on new technology purchases
• Improved security and uptime with modern devices
• Lower energy and toner costs over time
• Business continuity and support from the highest-rated service team in New England
